Power Boating

Kinsale
Outdoor Education Centre is an Irish
Sailing Association Recognised Teaching
Establishment for Power-boating, Sailing
and Windsurfing. The Centre operates
a rigid inflatable boat (P.I.B.) as
well as 19ft displacement hull boots,
which give the students a good feel
for both types of craft.
The Harbour of Kinsale offers variety
and interest to the Powerboat student.
Marinas, f lot water, tidal zones, open
sea, navigation marks are all accessible
in this splendid harbour. Victor Fusco,
the Centre Principal, is an ISA Powerboat
Trainer and Instructor and has 20 years
experience in powerboats and also teaches
Yachtmasters and Navigation to Sailing
Courses. The staff also includes 3 other
Powerboat Instructors.

ISA Level 1 Course
One day introductory course to Power-boating.
No previous experience required. Practical
Course that will give you a good foundation
in:
Boat preparation
Launching
Recovery
Handling skills and manoeuvres
Basic rules
Level 1 Certificate issued at end of
course.
ISA Level 1~2 Course
Two day course. No previous experience
required, however, candidates with a
Level 1 Certificate and some experience
will be better placed to achieve the
Level 2 Certificate - The National Certificate
in Power-boating. In addition to Level
1 contents, this course covers;
Anchoring,& mooring
Man overboard drill
Engines & drives
More advanced handling skills
Buoyage and rules of the road
Basic understanding of tides and weather
Safely Boat Course
Two day course. Level 2 Certificate
is a prerequisite. This course is designed
to teach the practical skills in rescue
and safety cover for those involved
in Sailing Clubs, Outdoor Activity Centres,
Windsurfing Clubs, etc. The course includes:
Dinghy rescue
Group control
Organising safety cover
Emergency procedures
Reporting and maintenance

Advanced Powerboat Certificate
Two day course. Candidates should hold
a level 2 Certificate or equivalent
with a good working knowledge of navigation,
rules of the road (Day skipper Shore
Based Certificate standard) VHF Certificate
and First Aid Certificate are also strongly
recommended.

The aim of this course is to teach
boat handling, seamanship, pilotage
and navigation up to standards required
to drive a planing powerboat by day
or by night in coastal waters. The course
includes:
High speed handling
Navigation (&PS)
Night pilotage and navigation
Heavy weather handling
Meteorology and tides
Emergency situations

Tutorial and Direct Assessment
One day. If you feel you have acquired
most of the skills and knowledge required
for Level 2 Certificate, then a one-day
tutorial & Assessment may suit your
needs. You will be mode familiar with
the whole syllabus and time will be
given to whatever aspects you feel you
need to improve. Assessment for Level
2 is integrated into the day.
